it's been forever since my last house update! pretty much because of how long this project has taken....
this project has taken eight months and about $2,000. and hallelujah, we are basically done.
we got the cabinets and counters from devin's parents, who were redoing their kitchen as we decided to tackle ours (they went from these cabinets to a sleek ikea-catolog-ready kitchen, but we were so happy to get their old cabinets, which were an upgrade from our old ones!).
all we had to buy, which we did slowly over the course of the 8 months because we're on a tight budget, were the backsplash tiles, floor tiles, knobs, {6 recessed} lights, sheetrock, crown moulding/other trim, and paint. the labor? free, thanks to my supremely skilled husband {and his dad who gave helpful tutorials!}.
how the kitchen started out:
"the process", a.k.a. "when we made sandwiches/cooked with a microwave in the dining room":
devin did everything. his dad helped, when necessary {like giving dev a how-to with crown moulding installation}. i also helped. like when we sheetrocked the ceiling, and i had to help hold up 10 ft-half-inch and rock then screw in my side of it...it's insanely heavy, if you don't know what that is.
devin retiled both the backsplash and the floors. that nastyyy pink tile is gone, and our fake-wood laminate floors are now ceramic tile. he's so talented, that husband of mine--he had never installed cabinets or tiled before, and he was brave enough {and skilled enough!} to try it.
date night this past friday was painting the walls. devin also re-trimmed the window & door, and up at the top is the crown moulding! {color: porpoise by behr, in semi-gloss}
the end result: a new kitchen (and that nearly-antique stove) that i'm in love with.
